Solutions for OnePlus 8 Pro display issues - Save a trip to a OnePlus service centre in Gurgaon

03/23/2021

The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with quite a few top-of-the-line specs than could shame many a flagship models of its time. The phone continues to be a top draw among smartphone buyers even today and is almost as relevant as it was when first launched almost a year ago. Unfortunately, notwithstanding the high-end specs the phone comes with, there still are a few display issues that can be a hassle. Usually, those are not serious enough to go looking for a OnePlus service centre in Gurgaon. Rather, the issues can well be managed by a few simple tips and tricks, as have been mentioned below.

Display issues

The OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a beautiful screen with a high 120 Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, the beauty proved superficial as the display suffered from problems right out of the box. Those include a strange green tint that became noticeable with a dark screen. Specifically, the problem surfaces when the refresh rate is set at 120 Hz and brightness is set at a low setting.

Fortunately, the issue is of software origin and the company has been prompt to release an update that fixed the issue, but only for the green tint to be replaced with a red tint for some users. The company said they are working on an update for the same and as of now, the best thing to do will be to wait for OnePlus to issue an update for this.

However, if you are yet to update to the latest software version, here is how you can do it manually.

  • Go to Settings > System > System Update
  • In the System Update screen that shows, install the update that might become available. You can check often so as not to miss out on the latest update that becomes available.

Touchscreen issues

Many users reported facing a lag with the touchscreen response times. The issue seems to be particularly noticeable when the display resolution is set to Quad HD and the screen refresh rate is set to 120 Hz. You are more likely to experience the display lag when using a keyboard with the above-mentioned display settings in place.

Here is how you can get rid of the issue:

Reduce display resolution and/or refresh rate

  • Go to Settings > Display > Advanced
  • Reduce the refresh rate to 60 Hz
  • For resolution, opting for Full HD can be a good choice
  • Restart the phone for the change to take effect

Now, this is far from being the ideal scenario to deal with the issue as you will still be deprived of using the phone to the optimum. The below mentioned steps should help in such a scenario.

Disable the three-finger screenshot gesture

  • Go to Settings > Buttons & gestures > Quick gestures
  • Here, disable 'Three-finger screenshot'

Reduce animation speed in Developer Options menu

  • Settings > About phone
  • Tap on Build number repeatedly until you see a pop-up display that shows, 'You are now a developer'
  • Go to Settings > System > Developer options
  • Go to the 'Drawing' section and set all the animation scale settings to 0.5.x

The above tricks should help you get rid of the touchscreen lag issues in the OnePlus 8 Pro for good. However, a visit to a trusted OnePlus service centre in Gurgaon is definitely recommended if you ae facing some other problems too or if the above tips aren't working for you.
